Red Day

The final day of color week was Red, another easy color for our closet to accommodate. Color week made me appreciate how lucky we are to have Wanda as Maisy's teacher. She set aside her vanity each day and dressed from head to toe in the themed color. Even if it meant wearing some of her husband's clothes to school. I didn't ask, but given Wanda's enthusiasm for color week she probably wore coordinating undergarments to school! : )

Sophie vying for a toy that one of the older children ended up using. This loss prompted her to sulk.
One balloon didn't cheer her up.

But two balloons did the trick!

Wanda preparing the coveted "Big" balloon that is awarded to the child who was chosen to pass out the crackers during snack time. Maisy got to take home the Big Yellow balloon!

Thank you Wanda for a fun week!

Yellow Day

Sophie's Plumbers Crack!

Each day the children brought fruit to snack time to coordinate with the color of the day. On orange day parents brought oranges, clementines and carrots. On green day parents brought kiwis, pears, apples and grapes. So when I arrived at school with my yellow banana and saw that the fruit platter only contained bananas I decided to go to the fruit store to find OTHER yellow fruits to liven up their snack time. Sophie and I picked out a yellow pear, pineapple slices, yellow plumbs, and lemons. I thought I was being clever! But when I returned for pick-up and I brought my plate of fruit upstairs to Wanda I discovered that she and the students were baking bananas! Next time I will have to make an effort to translate the entire notice, or ask a parent to read it to me. Another minor detail lost on the expat!

Orange Day

Tuesday was Orange day. I dug our Maisy's summer clothes and found a halloween shirt to dress her in. Each day Wanda hangs balloons from a clothes line and one luck child gets to take home the giant balloon! Maisy's friend was chosen to take home the orange balloon - and we brought him home on our bike. I had three kids, myself and a HUGE balloon to manage on the ride home!

Even little siblings get into the spirit of color week.

Blue Day

This is color week at Maisy's school. It was easy to find clothes for Blue day. It really is fun to see all the children (and even some parents) dressed in one color. Enjoy the photos

A Ballerina In Training

I enrolled Maisy in a Dutch ballet class this winter. The class is taught in Dutch, parents are not allowed inside, and she didn't know any of the children when she started. But she enjoyed her trial class enough to return the next week.

Sophie and I don't enjoy the ballet class as much as Maisy because we don't get to watch, and Sophie knows that she is missing out on something fun - she hears all the great music coming from the classroom.

Today we had a special treat. When I dropped Maisy off I saw that the room was filled with parents. Apparently, today was a mini-recital for the parents. Who knew? I am sure it was posted somewhere in Dutch. So today Sophie and I got to enjoy Maisy's dance class too.

Sophie sat quietly on my lap for about fifteen minutes, mesmerized by the action. And then she decided to join in, or at least get a front row view of the action by standing in the center of the dancing.
