Prague

Photos: Note that the first scenic photo is taken from below the castle. I walked that entire distance carrying Sophie on my back and pushing Maisy in the stroller. Then note that the second scenic photo is looking down on the city from the castle grounds. Finally, note the steps that Maisy is standing on. Instead of weaving our way back down the road we took the short cut down the steps. I made Maisy walk and bounced the stroller down the stairs. This photo is taken halfway down the stairs. After that adventure I needed to fill the tires up with more air! Oddly, nobody stopped to ask me if I needed help until we were near the bottom. Of course it was a sympathetic woman who offered. I wouldln't have accepted, I liked the challenge. But an offer would have been nice.
Since Joel had to work, the girls and I spent our first day in Prague exploring the city ourselves. I wish I had an odometer on my stroller. I would love to know how many miles I have logged since arriving in Europe. It feels like 500, but it is probably only about 100.

Prague is one of the cities in Europe that didn't get bombed during WWI or WWII so it is a wonderful representation of old Europe. The colorful buildings and red tiled roofs were beautiful. Unlike Amsterdam, Prague has a lot of elevation which provide some very dramatic views. I would put Prague on your must see list. It isn't as cheap as it used to be, but the prices are still reasonable.

Although Prague is a beautiful city, I still prefer living in Amsterdam. There are too many hills to make biking your primary means of transportation and English is not widely spoken outside the tourist venues.

Prague is famous for its crystal and marionettes. I didn't plan ahead and only brought enough luggage to accommodate our belongings, so I couldn't shop as much as I would have liked. We did buy a few crystal pieces and some marionettes for Maisy. She is excited to bring her marionettes to NH in May because I told her that papa John will put on puppet shows for her. She picked out a horse (go figure), a dragon and three princesses. I tried to slip in a prince, but she wanted nothing to do with him and insisted on three princesses.
