We have a mouse in our kitchen. He arrived a few weeks after we did. The little bugger isn't shy. He comes right out after the girls go to sleep to clean up any crumbs left on the counters and floors. We actually didn't notice him until he chewed a hole in the side of a garbage bag that we left on the kitchen floor. Joel immediately made a trip to the hardware store to buy some traps. He set them with peanut butter and put them out. The mouse didn't bite. So then we tried setting them inside this calzone box filled with good treats. He set off the traps, but didn't get caught.
Maisy called grandma Cindy and papa John to tell them about the mouse. and to help enlist the help of starbelle their cat. Joel thinks it's funny to tell Maisy that she has to stay up when we go to bed at night so that she can catch the mouse. This concept clearly upsets her (humor at the expense of a 2.5 year old) and she tells him no because grandma is sending Starbelle in the mail to catch the mouse.
Joel is going to try to find better traps. We may even try my dad's suggestion of food on a gangplank so the mouse falls into a bucket and drowns. And if all else fails, we'll hire an exterminator when I take the girls to Germany in a few weeks. Until then, all of our food is now stored in the refridgerator.
